Ministries

River of Life....sometimes referred to as the "Soup Kitchen", has been located in the Community House building since 2000. The Café is only one part of the community effort to make sure that people are not hungry in Boise and provides just under 90,000 of the more than 250,000 individual meals that are served annually. Meals are served at Baltes Community Café each day (including weekends, holidays, and the summer) at lunch and dinner, and breakfast is served Monday through Friday. Members from St. Stephen's on the 5th Sunday of the month.

It is the care and love of knitting combined into a prayerful ministry that reaches out to those in need of comfort and solace.  That is the definition of the Shawl Ministry and we are so thankful for our group here at St. Stephen' s.  As of today the St. Stephen's Constance and Her Companions Knitting Guild has 41 knitters, and the number keeps growing.  The guild has presented over 125 shawls (first one presented September 30, 2003) to people who have had illnesses, bereavement in their lives, marriages, births and retirements.

The knitter begins each shawl with prayers and blessing for the recipient which continues throughout the creation of the shawl.  The color has significance in that PURPLE is for power, spirituality, wisdom, comfort during grief or mourning; GRAY is for strength; and WHITE holds the colors together-symbolic of the Holy Spirit, protection, peace and illumination.  When the shawl is completed, it is offered a blessing before being sent along its way.

The Lillian Vallely School is an Episcopal School in Blackfoot, serving children who live on the Fort Hall Indian Reservation in eastern Idaho. Their goal is to provide a place where children will have their minds stretched and their hearts filled with hope and, while celebrating the gifts of their ancestors, will develop skills needed for a great future.

For more information on the school, please contact Father David at ststephensrector@integra.net.
